Fern River Resort sits along the San Lorenzo Valley River and has private beach access. The river bank changes every year depending on the winter storms and where the river settles. Generally, our beach is a mix of river rock and sandy areas. The river in front of our property is lazy and safe for children and between knee and waist deep. Farther down the river there are deeper swimming holes that you can access by hiking through Henry Cowell State Park. Henry Cowell is directly across the river from us and many guests pack a picnic and cross the river into the park during the summer months. Our beach is kept natural to protect local wildlife habitat. We recommend bringing beach towels, water shoes and folding chairs to enjoy our beach. Some of our guests bring kayaks and innertubes to play in the river. Fern River does have very large duck and swan floaty rentals that are first come first serve and available Mid May- Mid October. A $50 deposit is required and rental fees are $10 per day.
Fern River has a private Jacuzzi spa within a tinted gazebo available for our guests over 18. Reservations are required and the spa operates between 10am and 9pm. A private reservation grants up to 3 guests access to the hot tub for a 30-min appointment. A $20 refundable deposit is due at appointment booking and returned to guests at the end of their stay pending client adhering to the spa rules. The cost for an appointment is $10 and appointments need to be made during normal office hours between 9am and 6pm. After 6 only premade appointments will be granted access to the spa. The hot tub is kept at 103 degrees. Our spa rules are available belowClick for download of spa rules
Fern River has an onsite campfire ring that is available pending safe weather conditions. It is perfect for roasting marshmallows, enjoying acoustic music and marveling at the stars. We ask guests that plan to use the campfire area to bring firewood and clean up after themselves. We ask guests to always have someone watching the fire and to keep it below knee height and hose it thoroughly when done for the night. Quiet hours on the property start at 10pm. We do not mind if guests would like to enjoy the stars and fire after this time, but guests are asked to be mindful of other guests on the property and keep voices at a conversational level.
If you like to engage your family or friends in competitive play we have Fern River has a few different sports and games onsite for everyone to enjoy. Fern River hosts a ping pong table, Badminton Court, Tetherball, Horse shoe pit and a Basketball hoop ( not regulation). There is a small red building next to the ping pong table that stores sporting equipment, has puzzles, books, toys, and board games. Since our books , sports wear and board games are so popular every year we find we need more fun things to provide our guests. If you have books, games, toys or sports equipment your family has outgrown we love donations!
Each one of our cabins has a pedestal campground style BBQ for guests use. Fern River does provide a cleaning brush but asks their guests to bring their own coals and if wanted favorite BBQ tools. Please do not burn wood in these BBQ as over time it weakens the metal bottom and can create a hazard. Staff will empty ashes after your stay when they are safely cooled. Each cabin also has a picnic table outside to enjoy the great outdoors while you enjoy a meal. Many of these picnic areas overlook the river.
For prearranged contracted special events Fern River has an outdoor kitchen. It hosts a large commercial BBQ, Commercial Oven and 6 burner stove top, Ice Machine, Freezer, and Refrigerator. A 30 foot counter can be used for buffet style serving or a prep area. Outdoor event restrooms are available for private events hosted with Fern River.
