Wireless High Speed Internet
High speed wireless access is available in most locations at
Free wireless service: Is limited to 300kp's down load & 150kp's
up for 2 hours a day. This is plenty fast enough for basic e-mail
and web browsing.
Streaming audio and video, Skype,
voice over internet phones, playing on line movies and video
games require purchase of additional band width.
Additional speed/bandwidth options are available as follows:
2.4 Mb's down, 800kb's up = $6.00 per day.
2.4 Mb's down, 800kb's up = $14.00 per week.
2.4 Mb's down, 800kb's up = $25.00 per 30 days.
Purchase is done through your notebook computer with a credit
card and over a secure connection.
The speeds listed above are maximums set by the option of your
choice. Because there are so many variables that are out of our
control, we cannot guaranty that you will receive the selected
speed above. See details below.
Wireless speed is affected by distance to/from the repeater,
the quality and or compatibility of the end user's equipment
and how many walls you are trying to make access through.
Our repeaters put out the maximum watts allowed by the FCC. Our
antennas are 18" 12db and 48" 16 db gain antennas.
This gives them a line of site range of up to a mile. However,
the internal antenna on most end user devises is less then 1
inch long and much less than 1 DB. This means that most end user
equipment has very limited range. Therefore the location or quality
of your equipment may limit your speed and or access. You can
greatly improve your speed with a 9DB gain or better external
antenna. Another way to improve your speed is to move your modem
antenna so it is in the line of site of the repeater antenna
nearest your cottage. This means by the window that you can see
our antenna from.
Internet access speed and or bandwidth
are also limited by overall Internet traffic.
This means that some times the system may become overloaded and
slow down below the speed you have purchased. In Felton this
is most common around 11:00 PM local time.
Like all open access wireless, the free access at Fern River
Resort is not password protected or encrypted. This means that
a hacker may be able to read your signal as it passes over the
airwaves from your computer to our access point (AP). Once on
our network, the wireless client network traffic becomes safe
because it is encrypted as it travels between our AP's and the
gateway. It is highly unlikely that a hacker is parked within
range of your cottage but we recommend that you do not send,
stock, banking, credit card or any other personal information
over the Internet.
Secure paid wireless access:
The access points in our network will issue DHCP leases that
place each client on an isolated 10.0.0.0/8 network. Clients
cannot directly communicate with each other. You create your
own WPA password when you purchase higher speeds. Each end user
of our network has his or her own user name and password. As
long as you are using a secure site, (starts with https), you
have a private and secure connection.
There are no refunds offered or issued
on any wireless access, free or purchased.
The Internet can be a very dangerous place. It is your responsibility
to insure your, your family, friends and children's safety. We
are not responsible or liable for any content, experience, damage
or loss that you or anyone incurs by using our free or purchased
Electrical power and internet service
is supplied by outside companies. Although extremely rare,
electrical power as well as phone and cable wires are subject
to interruption caused by storms, car wrecks and more. Since
this is out of our control, we cannot guaranty that you will
have Internet access or even electrical power while at our resort.
Therefore no refunds are issued for power failures caused by
storms or other conditions that are out of our control.
We are not a hardware provider and
we do not offer tech support. We
recommend you purchase your own equipment. You can purchase a

You are on your own with tech support. Any wireless adapter you
use at Fern River must be 2.4 Ghz, IEEE802.11B compliant.
